Started initially for NaNoWriMo, Album Adventures was borne of a simple idea to use concept albums as inspiration for tabletop roleplaying game adventures. However, the idea changed pretty quickly to try and apply any kind of music album as inspiration for an adventure.
Given my fairly eclectic listening habits and my weird imagination, I think there is a lot of interesting material just waiting to be written.
Most likely, I will be focusing on Numenera and The Strange, but it's quite possible that whatever I end up writing will be suitable for any system with a bit of work.
The basic rules of the process will be to take the overall theme inspiration from the name of album artist, the cover art and the name of the album itself - at least as a rough guide - and then to write a series of encounters or story fragments based on each track, using the title and (if it is not instrumental) the lyrics to inspire the content. The writing should also be done whilst listening to the album in order to stay inspired and thematically appropriate.
This will almost certainly result in some strange adventures that cross fully of the border of normality into the surreal, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Given this is a NaNoWriMo project, naturally it will be full of errors, stupid and bad writing and other issues, but once a full album adventure is finished, it will be edited and tidied up.
